MICHAEL KIRKBRIDE ART

Michael was brought up in an environment where he spent time with his father drawing and painting. Provided with some of the best equipment available and in receipt of lots of loving encouragement from the age of 4, Michael developed a love of art.

Developing this love into a career took time and effort. Michael trained at Bolton Art College but got caught up in the hippie movement, moving from place to place experiencing much in life which has later formed part of the emotion behind the artwork he creates.

As Mick Jagger says, if you remember the 60’s, you weren’t there, he was right. Michael remembers very little of that space in time. Some changes in lifestyle resulted in Michael finding some grounding in life which altered his views on certain matters. He began working as a grave digger, a roofer, a tarmac layer, you name it, he tried it.

Commencing 2001, Michael returned to his degree, finally completing the longest degree ever, it began in 1966 and was finally completed in 2002.

Following that, Michael has taught art both privately and in the education sector.

His piece ‘Love’ was entered into the Royal Academy 250th Anniversary Summer Exhibition, one of the largest and most prestigious open art exhibitions in the world. It was chosen from 1000’s of entries to be displayed along with work from Tracey Emin, Anish Kapoor RA and David Hockney RA, curated by Grayson Perry RA.

He continues in his creating of pieces, using a great variety of media, copying the techniques of artists such as Monet, Leonardo Da Vinci, Tamara Di Lempicka and Seurat. You can see influences from these artists in his work along with many others. He is currently working on remaking a piece by Santiago Rusinol

Michael takes commissions for work , resulting in bespoke pieces that have a lot of meaning to the person they were created for.
